| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Republic of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield featuring a sailing ship and a castle, flanked by two mythological panthers serving as supporters. Above the shield, a star appears as a crest element, and two cornucopias frame the composition on either side. The full legend encircles the design, with the denominational inscription appearing in the lower portion of the field. |

The "English Knight" belongs to a series of medieval warrior issues struck for Benin under the République du Bénin authority — a country with no medieval European history of its own, producing these coins purely as numismatic collectibles for the international market. Benin adopted the CFA franc in 1945 and has never circulated commemorative silver of this type domestically.
KM#109 was struck at a European private mint on contract, a common arrangement for West African CFA-zone nations whose commemorative programs are designed, marketed, and distributed almost entirely outside their borders.
