| Reverse description | Dynamic high-relief depiction of the Chimera, the fire-breathing hybrid creature of Greek mythology, presented as a composite beast combining the body of a lion, the head of a goat rising from its back, and a serpentine tail. The lion and goat heads face outward with open, snarling jaws, their fangs and tongues selectively gilded in gold to dramatic effect. A coiled serpent tail is rendered in fine scale detail at the center of the composition. The entire design is set against a field bearing a classical Greek meander pattern border and a rope-twist inner rim, with the legend CHIMERA inscribed in the lower exergue. |
