Château Renard is a medieval fortress in the Loiret department of France, which raises an immediate question for the collector: why is a landlocked West African nation issuing silver commemoratives for a French château. The answer is strictly commercial — Burkina Faso, like several other CFA franc member states, has licensed its minting authority to produce numismatic issues with no domestic circulation intent, sold directly into the European collector market.
