Gabon's 1000 Francs CFA coinage program in the mid-2010s was largely a product of the European bullion and collector market rather than domestic monetary policy — these pieces were struck under the auspices of the BEAC monetary union but effectively designed for export sale. The CFA franc itself is pegged to the euro and has been since 1999, making a 1000 CFA denomination worth less than two euros at face, rendering any silver one-ounce coin purely a numismatic artifact from the moment of striking.
KM#34.1 distinguishes this from at least one recorded variant, suggesting a die or finish revision occurred within the same year's production run.
