The "Battle of Los Angeles" occurred on the night of February 24–25, 1942, when U.S. anti-aircraft batteries opened fire on what military radar and nervous observers reported as an incoming Japanese air raid — roughly three months after Pearl Harbor. No enemy aircraft were ever found. The War Department initially attributed the incident to Japanese planes; the Navy said weather balloons. Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox called it a false alarm the following day, which the Army flatly contradicted. The official explanation has never fully satisfied historians.
Burkina Faso has issued numismatic silver under the CFA framework primarily for the collector export market, with no domestic circulation intended.
