| Reverse description | The reverse presents a high-relief bust of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten) facing slightly to the right, wearing the traditional striped nemes headdress with a uraeus at the brow. The pharaoh holds the crook and flail crossed over his chest, the royal insignia of Egyptian sovereignty, and wears an elaborately decorated collar and broad pectoral ornament. A cartouche bearing Egyptian hieroglyphs appears to the right of the figure. The entire composition is framed by an ornate border of stylized palm fronds and lotus motifs, evoking the artistic conventions of the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. The antique finish accentuates the deeply sculpted relief and lends the design an authentically aged, archaeological character. |
