| Obverse description | The complete coat of arms of the Gabonese Republic occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing three roundels in chief and a sailing ship in base, supported on either side by a black panther rampant. Gabon's membership in the BEAC monetary zone means its circulating coinage is issued collectively — individual commemorative silver issues like this one exist precisely because Gabon cannot produce distinctive national coinage through normal channels. The springbok, notably, is not native to Gabon; its range is southern African, making this essentially a wildlife bullion product aimed at international collectors rather than anything rooted in Gabonese natural history.
