| Additional information |
The Republic of the Congo — not to be confused with its larger neighbor the Democratic Republic of the Congo — was still stabilizing politically in 2002, three years after the end of a civil war that had devastated the capital Brazzaville. Commemorative silver issues from this period were almost exclusively produced for the collector export market, with no meaningful domestic circulation intended. Pobjoy Mint handled several of these Central African fauna series contracts during the early 2000s.
