| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Burkina Faso is displayed prominently in the center of the field, featuring a shield charged with a five-pointed star, flanked by two rearing stallions as supporters, with crossed spears behind the shield and an open book below. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto in the legend. The circular legend along the upper rim reads REPUBLIQUE DU BURKINA FASO, while the country name BURKINA FASO appears on a ribbon within the arms. The denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in large characters in the lower field. |

The Abidjan–Ouagadougou railway, completed in 1954 under French colonial administration, was the economic artery that made landlocked Upper Volta commercially viable. After independence and the country's 1984 renaming to Burkina Faso, the line passed through successive management crises before SITARAIL took over operations in 1995 under a concession shared with Côte d'Ivoire. By 2013, when this piece was struck, freight and passenger traffic had declined sharply from mid-century peaks, making the commemorative choice feel more elegiac than celebratory.
