| Obverse description | Central device features the stylized mask emblem of the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (BCEAO), depicted in a traditional West African artistic style with flanking decorative elements. To the lower left of the mask appears a rectangular mint privy mark incorporating the date 2002 and a circular EU-style star ring. The circumferential legend BANQUE CENTRALE DES ÉTATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST runs along the upper periphery, while the date 2002 is inscribed at the base of the field between two mint marks. The rim is bordered by a continuous decorative geometric frieze of alternating triangular motifs. |

| Reverse description | Central field depicts a naturalistic arrangement of three principal agricultural commodities of the West African member states: cocoa pods with leaf to the left, a flowering coffee branch at centre, and peanuts to the right, all resting above two crossed millet or grain sprigs. The denomination 1000 FRANCS is inscribed in two lines at the base of the field in bold raised lettering. The peripheral legend, reading along both sides of the coin, names the eight member states of the monetary union separated by dots. The rim carries the same geometric triangular decorative frieze as the obverse. |
