Cameroon's numismatic output since the 1990s has been dominated by the Central African Economic and Monetary Community framework, which permits member states to issue collectible pieces well outside any domestic circulation reality. This coin was produced for the international collector market, almost certainly by a European private mint under licensing arrangements — a model that has drawn recurring scrutiny from numismatic organizations concerned about the blurring of sovereign coinage and commercial novelty manufacture.
Buenos Aires hosted a major international numismatic congress in 2017, which this piece was issued to commemorate.
