Flanking the portrait on either side are two symmetrical decorative motifs comprising a suspended orb above a fan of radiating tassels or feathers, evoking traditional Gabonese ceremonial regalia. A dotted arc border frames the lower portion of the design. The legend REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE arcs along the upper periphery, while the name ALBERT.BERNARD BONGO appears in two lines at the base of the portrait, with the date 1969 positioned to the right of the effigy near the inner border. |

Central design features a large termite mound or anthill rising prominently from a lush ground of tropical vegetation, including grasses, reeds, and flowering plants rendered in fine detail. The national coat of arms of Gabon is displayed at the top of the design, flanked by two stars and surmounting the central motif. The same paired orb-and-tassel decorative elements seen on the obverse appear symmetrically on either side of the field, framing the composition. A mint mark appears to the left of the central design. The denomination FRANCS 1000 FRANCS is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower exergual arc, with dotted borders at each side. |
