Obverse description The national coat of arms of Benin is depicted centrally in the field, flanked on either side by the date, with '19' to the left and '99' to the right. The arms feature two leopards as supporters, a quartered shield surmounted by a star above a buffalo head, and a ribbon below bearing the motto 'FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL'. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN' arcs along the upper border, while the denomination '1000 FRANCS CFA' is inscribed in the lower portion of the field. The entire design is rendered in a proof-like finish against a mirror-polished rectangular flan.
