Thomas De La Rue printed this series across a remarkably long production window, with individual notes dated anywhere from 1988 through 1994 — six years of essentially the same plate design kept in continuous service. Madagascar's dual denomination system, pairing the inherited colonial Franc with the Ariary at a fixed 5:1 ratio, dates to 1961 and was never resolved into a clean redenomination until 2004, leaving decades of notes carrying both figures simultaneously.
The watermark is the sole security measure, modest even by the standards of the period.
