The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale issued notes across six member states simultaneously, differentiating them by letter code — the Central African Republic's series carried the letter "C." This shared-plate arrangement meant Oberthur in Rennes was producing near-identical notes for multiple sovereign states at once, with national identity reduced to a single printed character.
The 1980–1984 window covers the brief period when the Central African Republic was reasserting republican governance after Bokassa's imperial interlude ended in 1979.
