The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — BEAC — replaced the old BCEAEC structure in 1972, and this series was among the first to carry the unified Cameroonian republic's name following the 1972 constitutional change that dissolved the federal arrangement between Francophone and Anglophone Cameroon. The "République Unie" designation was itself dropped in 1984 when Biya renamed the country simply "République du Cameroun," which gives this note a precise political window.

Banque de France printing throughout the BEAC issues of this period was standard, with Paris handling intaglio production for most francophone African central banks well into the 1980s.
