| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is dominated by elaborate engine-turned guilloche rosettes and interlacing lathe-work patterns in green, arranged symmetrically across the entire field. A large central medallion with geometric patterning is flanked by two further guilloche rosettes, with the numeral "1000" appearing at upper left and upper right. The issuing bank's name is inscribed in a straight legend along the lower margin. |

Rwanda's first banknotes, issued in 1962 following independence from Belgian administration, were produced at speed — the country had previously used the Rwandan franc only as part of the Rwanda-Burundi currency union, itself a holdover from the colonial monetary framework. A completely sovereign central bank currency required notes almost immediately after the political separation, and Thomas De La Rue delivered the first series within that compressed window.
Pick 5 is the highest denomination of the inaugural series. De La Rue's watermark security on these early issues is relatively simple by later standards — the political urgency outpaced any elaborate specification process.
