| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Equatorial Guinea occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a silk-cotton tree (Ceiba pentandra) above a scroll bearing the national motto in three parts: UNIDAD, PAZ, and JUSTICIA. Six six-pointed stars arc across the upper portion of the shield, representing the mainland and island territories of the republic. The date 1996 is split to either side of the shield, with 19 to the left and 96 to the right. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1000 FRANCOS is inscribed along the lower border, all within a beaded inner border. |
