Obverse description Central field features the coat of arms of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, depicting a spread eagle with wings displayed, bearing a shield on its breast charged with a traditional Armenian church and stepped ornamental motif, set against a radiate sunburst pattern. The arms are encircled by a wreath-like border with an inner Armenian legend. Flanking the upper field are two sprigs of laurel. The date 2004 appears prominently at the top of the coin, the denomination 1000 is inscribed at the bottom center, and the Armenian legend ՀԱԶԱՐ ԱՐՑԱԽՅԱՆ ԴՐԱՄ (One Thousand Artsakh Drams) curves along the lower rim. The fineness mark .999 appears to the right of the central device.

Reverse description The reverse presents a scenic landscape depiction of Lake Van, rendered in fine relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. A panoramic view shows the calm waters of the lake in the foreground, with a rocky island or shoreline feature at center, and a dramatic mountain range rising behind it under an open sky. The Armenian inscription ՎԱՆԱ ԼԻՃ curves along the upper portion of the field, while the bilingual legend VAN LAKE appears in Latin letters along the lower portion, both following the curvature of the rim.
