Obverse description Central design features a colorized pennant composed of the national flags of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, arranged above a stylized mountain landscape. The Coat of Arms of Armenia appears to the lower right of the field. The date 2012 is inscribed to the left, with a reference to 19 April 1992 flanking the coat of arms. The denomination 1000 դրամ (1000 Dram) is inscribed below the central design, set before ten radiating arcs. An interrupted circular border frames the design, with the Armenian legend ՀԱՎԱՔԱԿԱՆ ԱՆՎՏԱՆԳՈՒԹՅԱՆ ՊԱՅՄԱՆԱԳԻՐ (Collective Security Treaty) above and ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ (Republic of Armenia) completing the surround.

Additional information

The Collective Security Treaty — signed in Tashkent in May 1992 by six post-Soviet states including Armenia — was the organizational predecessor to the CSTO, which formally replaced it in 2002. Armenia joined as a founding signatory, a consequential alignment given the ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh that had already erupted by the time the ink was dry.
