The obverse features the Armenian national coat of arms at right, depicting a double-headed eagle supporting a shield charged with heraldic symbols, flanked by a lion and an eagle as supporters, with a sword and an eagle feather as the crest. To the left, a large stylised Armenian letter forms part of the decorative composition, rendered in high relief against a textured field. The Armenian legend ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ arcs along the left periphery, with the date 2003 inscribed along the upper border. The denomination 1000 ԴՐԱՄ appears prominently in the lower field, and the Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΙΓΡΑΝΟΥ is also present in the design. The entire composition is executed in antique finish, giving the relief a bold, archaic appearance. |

The reverse presents a large, boldly modelled portrait bust of Tigran the Great, King of Armenia, facing right in the ancient Hellenistic tradition. The king wears his distinctive tall tiara, elaborately decorated with floral rosettes, stepped battlements adorned with spherical finials, and pendant cheek-pieces decorated with dotted borders, all rendered in high sculptural relief. The portrait is closely cropped and dominates the entire field of the coin, reflecting the iconography found on ancient tetradrachms struck in Tigran's name. The engraver's mark appears in the lower left field. The antique finish accentuates the depth of the relief and enhances the archaic, medallic quality of the design. |
