| 正面描述 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia in the upper field, depicting an eagle and a lion flanking a quartered shield with symbolic imagery. Below the arms, the denomination '1000' is inscribed in large numerals, followed by 'դրամ dram' in both Armenian and Latin scripts. Along the right border, the legend 'ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ' is rendered vertically in Armenian script, while 'REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA' appears in bold Latin letters across the lower field. |

Sanahin Monastery, founded in the 10th century in the Lori region, was a major center of medieval Armenian scholarship — its scriptorium produced illuminated manuscripts and its academy trained clerics and philosophers at a time when much of the surrounding Caucasus was in political flux. The complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996 alongside the nearby Haghpat Monastery, both sites surviving the Soviet period largely intact despite decades of institutional atheism.
Armenia's commemorative silver program accelerated sharply after 2000, issuing dozens of cultural heritage subjects in .925 silver. The KM#A281 designation places this among a crowded field of similar issues from that run.
