| 背面描述 | The central field features a detailed polychrome representation of the historic reliquary cross enshrining the relics of Saint George, housed at Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral. The ornate cross is rendered with coloured enamel gemstone inlays in red, green, blue, and purple, faithfully reproducing the jewelled decoration of the original sacred artifact. A small stylised cross motif appears in the upper left corner of the field. The bilingual legend 'ՍՈՒՐԲ ԷԹՉՄԻԱԾԻՆ / HOLY ETCHMIADZIN' is inscribed along the upper margin, while 'ՍՈՒՐԲ ԳԵՎՈՐԳԻ ՄԱՍՈՒՆՔՈՎ ԽԱՉ / CROSS WITH THE RELICS OF SAINT GEORGE' appears in the lower field, above the date '2016' and the mint mark 'ՌՆԿԵ'. |

Saint George holds particular significance in Armenian Christianity — the apostle Gregory the Illuminator, who converted the Armenian king Tiridates III in 301 AD, reportedly baptized the saint's relics on Armenian soil, and several Armenian churches claim to house fragments of his remains. This coin was issued as part of Armenia's ongoing commemorative series honoring Christian relics, which the Central Bank began producing in the early 2000s in close coordination with the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The gold plating on these issues is applied over .925 silver using a selective process that leaves certain relief areas in matte silver — a deliberate contrast technique, not a finishing flaw.
