Movses Khorenatsi, the 5th-century historian credited with writing History of Armenia, has been called the "father of Armenian historiography" since at least the medieval period — though modern scholars have argued at length that the text may have been composed as late as the 9th century, making the authorship question genuinely unresolved. Armenia issued this coin as part of a broader commemorative program honoring figures central to Armenian cultural identity, a series that accelerated after independence as an explicit exercise in national historical framing.
