Reverse description The reverse features a dynamic high-relief depiction of five male runners in the ancient Greek style, inspired by classical frieze artwork, striding vigorously to the right across the field. The athletes are rendered in the manner of antique sculpture, wearing headbands and shown with muscular, idealized physiques. The Olympic rings appear in the upper right of the field, beneath which the commemorative dates 1896-1996 are inscribed in Latin numerals. Decorative meander-pattern bands frame the composition at the top and bottom of the field, evoking classical Hellenic ornamental tradition.
