Obverse description Dominant orange and ochre tones throughout, with a large intaglio vignette of a rearing dragon amid clouds occupying the right portion of the note. The centre carries the bank's name in English and Chinese (香港渣打銀行), the promise-to-pay legend in script lettering, and the denomination 'One Thousand Dollars 壹仟圓' in bold type. A rosette guilloche medallion appears at lower left, with large numeral '1000' repeated vertically on both side margins, and two facsimile signatures above the titles of the Chief Financial Officer and Area General Manager.

Reverse description Orange and yellow tones on a fine guilloche underprint, with a central large-format intaglio vignette of a Bauhinia blakeana flower in full bloom. To the left stands an intaglio rendering of a multi-storey commercial tower building. The bank name appears in Chinese at the top (香港渣打銀行) and in English within a solid panel at the bottom centre, with the denomination '1000' and '壹仟圓' at the corners, and a decorative rosette at lower right.
