Jamaica's $1000 polymer note was introduced as part of the country's 60th independence anniversary commemorative series, a deliberate packaging of national sentiment into a circulating denomination rather than a collector issue. De La Rue's polymer substrate here carries the same base security architecture seen across several other Caribbean issues printed in the same period, but the Jamaican series drew some attention for the relatively modest security feature set — a watermark on a polymer note is unusual, since the transparency windows inherent to the substrate typically do the heavier lifting.
TBB#254a designates the first signature variety within the type.
