| 裏面の説明 | A finely detailed Chinese dragon occupies the central field, depicted in dynamic profile with scaled body, clawed feet, flowing mane, and sinuous tail, rendered in high relief. Two Chinese characters '香' (right) and '港' (left) flank the dragon at mid-field, together reading '香港' (Hong Kong). The English legend 'HONG KONG' arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination '$1000' appears in the lower exergue. A beaded border surrounds the entire design. |

Hong Kong's gold $1000 series launched in 1975 as the territory's first domestically issued gold coinage, timed deliberately to capture the luxury gift market around Lunar New Year. The 1976 issue corresponds to the Year of the Dragon — the most commercially significant animal in the twelve-year cycle, driving higher demand at point of sale than most other years in the series. Many examples were purchased as gifts and stored unworn, which explains why gem survivors are plentiful relative to the modest annual mintage.
