| 背面描述 | A bounding Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is depicted in high relief at the centre of a sunburst pattern radiating outward from the inner field. The species name RED KANGAROO appears in the lower field beneath the animal. The circular legend THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 10 OZ .9999 GOLD arcs around the upper periphery, while the date flanked by two raised dots appears in the lower exergual area. The design is framed by a ring of raised dots forming a decorative inner border. |

The Australian Nugget — later rebranded the Australian Kangaroo — is one of the few major bullion programs to change its reverse design annually, a policy the Perth Mint adopted from the outset to discourage melting and stimulate collector demand alongside investor buying. The one-kilogram denomination sits at the top of the standard bullion range and was struck in comparatively small numbers each year relative to the smaller fractionals.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was introduced across Australian coinage in 1999 — the same year this date range opens.
