| Opmerkingen |
The Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya and British Borneo was a joint issuing authority created in 1952 to provide a common currency across Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, North Borneo, and Brunei — a monetary union that outlasted the political one, continuing until 1967. The $1000 denomination was never a note ordinary commerce touched. High-value notes in this series circulated almost exclusively between banks and for large commercial settlements, and surviving examples with any circulation wear are genuinely uncommon.
Thomas De La Rue produced the series on security paper with a watermark as the primary anti-counterfeiting measure — modest by later standards, but consistent with De La Rue's production norms for colonial currency at the time.
