1000 Dobras Heidiland

Heidiland is a theme park and tourist region in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland — its appearance on a São Tomé and Príncipe coin is purely commercial. By the late 1990s, the island nation had become a reliable vehicle for European-marketed commemorative issues with no organic connection to the country, produced in bulk for collector sets sold through mail-order dealers and Franklin Mint-style distributors. KM#93 is one of several dozen such issues from this period bearing the Dobras denomination but effectively functioning as a souvenir medallion with legal tender status.
