| Opmerkingen |
The 1993 series marked a transitional moment for São Tomé and Príncipe's currency — the country had abandoned its single-party Marxist government in 1990 and was navigating early multiparty governance alongside severe external debt and IMF structural adjustment pressures. The dobra had already been heavily devalued through the late 1980s, making the 1000-dobra denomination increasingly workaday rather than high-value.
Thomas De La Rue's involvement brought the series into line with contemporaneous Anglophone African issues from the same printer, though São Tomé remained a Lusophone outlier in the region. A watermark is the sole listed security feature — modest even by early-1990s standards for a De La Rue production.
