Additional information

São Tomé e Príncipe issued a sprawling series of Olympic commemoratives years ahead of the Atlanta Games — this piece dates to 1993, three years before the torch was lit. The islands had no field hockey tradition whatsoever, making the subject purely commercial: these coins were produced for the international collector market, not domestic circulation, and were never intended to pass through local hands.
