Comments

Algeria has printed its own banknotes domestically since the early 1980s, and by 2005 the Banque d'Algérie's in-house facility in Algiers was producing the full national range. This 1000 Dinar note was introduced as the highest denomination in everyday circulation at a time when hydrocarbon revenues were reshaping the Algerian economy after years of severe austerity following the civil conflict of the 1990s — a decade that had badly disrupted normal currency handling and distribution infrastructure.

The hologram strip on this issue marked a meaningful upgrade in domestic anti-counterfeiting capability for a note printed entirely in-house.
