Banjalučka Banka issued these cashier's cheques in 1992 as the Yugoslav dinar system collapsed and newly independent or self-declared entities scrambled to manage liquidity with whatever instruments they could produce locally. Banja Luka was then the administrative and financial center of the Republika Srpska, and commercial banks like Banjalučka Banka D.D. briefly filled the vacuum left by the disintegrating federal banking structure.
The cheque format rather than a conventional banknote is the telling detail here — it signals improvisation under wartime conditions, not a planned currency issue.
