Bosnia's first independent currency issues of 1992 were printed in Slovenia — a logistical necessity, since the republic had no domestic printing capacity at the moment of its rushed declaration of independence in April of that year. Cetis in Celje, a Slovenian security printer with roots in the Habsburg period, produced several of the early Bosnian dinar series under conditions that were anything but routine, with the war already underway by the time distribution began.
Dževad Hozo, the designer credited here, was a prominent Bosnian graphic artist and academic — his involvement signals that cultural assertion was part of the brief from the start.
