Additional information

The Western Red Colobus is one of the world's most endangered primates, with its largest remaining population concentrated in Abuko Nature Reserve and the forests along the Gambia River. Unlike most commemorative wildlife issues from small African nations, this one has a plausible conservation hook — The Gambia has been an active participant in colobus protection programs since the 1970s.

Silver-plated steel rather than true silver keeps production costs low enough to flood the collector market, a practice common among Pobjoy Mint and similar contractors handling small-nation commissions of this type.
