Vietnam's lunar new year commemorative series, of which this piece is part, was produced primarily for the gift and collector market rather than any circulation purpose. The Nordic gold composition — an aluminum-bronze alloy developed by the Finnish company Outokumpu — was adopted by numerous mints through the 1990s for its corrosion resistance and distinctive warm tone, making it a practical choice for commemorative issues intended to be handled and gifted.
