| Reverse description | A prancing horse in traditional Vietnamese ceremonial style is depicted in the central field, richly caparisoned with ornate decorative trappings. Behind the horse rises a tall ceremonial staff surmounted by a royal parasol and flanked by banners. To the upper left, a rectangular cartouche bears the Chinese characters '狀元馬' (Champion Horse), while the cyclical characters '壬午' and the date '2002' appear to the right. The legend 'NGỰA VIỆT NAM' arcs along the upper rim, and 'YEAR OF THE HORSE' is inscribed along the lower periphery. |

Vietnam's lunar new year commemorative series, of which this piece is part, was produced primarily for the gift and collector market rather than any circulation purpose. The Nordic gold composition — an aluminum-bronze alloy developed by the Finnish company Outokumpu — was adopted by numerous mints through the 1990s for its corrosion resistance and distinctive warm tone, making it a practical choice for commemorative issues intended to be handled and gifted.
