1000 Đồng

Vietnam's 1987 note series was issued under the command economy just before the Đổi Mới reforms fundamentally restructured the country's monetary and banking arrangements. Inflation was severe — the đồng was losing value faster than new notes could be put into circulation, which is why high denominations from this period show heavy wear; they turned over rapidly and were handled constantly.

The 1000 đồng was a workhorse denomination in a hyperinflationary environment, and survivors in any real condition above heavily circulated are not common.
