1000 Cordobas

This note was issued in 1979, the year the Somoza dictatorship collapsed and the Sandinista National Liberation Front took power. The Banco Central continued issuing Córdoba notes through the transition, and earlier-dated stock — including notes printed by De La Rue before the revolution — circulated under the new government simply because there was nothing immediately available to replace it. Nicaragua's monetary system did not get a proper Sandinista redesign until the early 1980s series.

De La Rue's involvement here is unremarkable for the region; they held printing contracts across Central America throughout this period. What matters is the timing: a note conceived under one government, circulating under its opposite.
