The coins carry Senegalese authority but were produced by European private mints — in this case almost certainly Berne's Swissmint contractors or a similar European facility — a standard arrangement for the region's collector series. The Senegal bush baby, Galago senegalensis, was formally described by É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire in 1796 from specimens collected along the Senegal River.
