| Reverse description | Within the copper-nickel centre, a left-facing bare-headed bust of Simón Bolívar is depicted in high relief, based on the classic effigy modelled by Désiré-Albert Barre, whose surname 'BARRE' appears as a signature at the base of the bust. A mint mark monogram appears to the lower right of the effigy. The brass outer ring bears the legend '• BOLÍVAR • LIBERTADOR', separated by two raised dots at the three and nine o'clock positions. |

Venezuela redenominated its currency in 2008, replacing the bolívar at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — meaning this coin, at face value, became exactly one of the new bolívar fuerte on introduction. It was among the highest-denomination circulating coins the country had issued up to that point, a response to inflation that was already accelerating well before the formal redenomination arrived.
