The Series 2 1,000 Baht notes were issued by the Government of Siam — not the National Bank, which did not yet exist — under the Currency Act of 1928, which reorganized the baht onto a gold exchange standard tied to sterling. The 1,000 Baht denomination was the highest in the series and saw near-zero retail circulation; at that value, a note represented roughly three years' wages for an ordinary laborer, making it essentially a reserve and interbank instrument.
The Type II designation within this series reflects a revised signature combination, a detail that matters considerably to specialists since signed examples in any combination are scarce. De La Rue's involvement was continuous across multiple Siamese series from the 1920s onward, with plates and paper supply managed entirely from London.
