Additional information

Zuun is a sub-municipality of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in Flemish Brabant, and the Parochie H. Lutgardis — dedicated to the 13th-century Brabantine mystic Saint Lutgardis of Aywières — issued this piece as parish currency in 1982, almost certainly for a local kermis or patronal feast. Belgian parish token issues of this type proliferated in the late 1970s and early 1980s, circulating as fair scrip redeemable for food, drink, or game tokens, then largely melted or discarded. The GMJ reference confirms cataloguing by Geert M. Joris, whose systematic documentation of Belgian local and parish issues remains the primary authority on this largely overlooked series.
