| Obverse description | The Polish state eagle — the crowned white eagle of the People's Republic — is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, with wings spread and head turned to the right. The mint year 1977 is divided across the lower field, flanking the eagle's talons, with the mint mark MW below. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA runs along the upper periphery. The denomination 100 ZŁ appears in bold numerals at the bottom of the field, flanked by the currency abbreviation ZŁ on either side. |

Reymont received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1924, the only Polish writer to do so until Wisława Szymborska in 1996. This trial strike — known in Polish numismatic literature as a próba — was produced to test design placement and die alignment before the circulating issue was approved, which accounts for the variant date positioning noted in the Fischer and ParM references. The National Bank of Poland issued numerous such probes throughout the 1970s, many in nickel rather than the final circulation alloy, making compositional differences the primary distinguishing factor between trial and regular strikes.
