Przemysław II holds a specific place in Polish historical memory: he was the first ruler to unite the fragmented Polish kingdom and be crowned King of Poland in 1295, ending a period of division stretching back to 1138. He was assassinated the following year, likely on the orders of the Margraves of Brandenburg, making his reign a matter of months.
