| Obverse description | Centrally placed Polish crowned eagle displayed in the field, with wings spread, within a beaded inner circle. The legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA is inscribed along the inner circle, with the date 1960 at the base. The broad outer border is divided into twelve relief panels depicting historical regional coats of arms and emblems of the Polish lands, separated by beaded dividers, evoking the millennial heritage of the Polish state. The overall design is executed in a plain, unadorned style characteristic of the trial strike without background ornamentation. |

Poland's millennium coinage program — commemorating a thousand years of Polish statehood and the Christianization of the Piast dynasty in 966 AD — generated an unusually large number of trial strikes and pattern variants as the communist government debated both design and material. This nickel trial without background texture represents one documented branch of that decision process, distinct from the cupro-nickel and aluminum variants also known for this type. The Polish People's Republic ultimately issued the circulation version in a different composition, leaving these trials as production-stage artifacts rather than approved coinage.
