| 背面描述 | A forward-facing portrait bust of Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik), the Polish astronomer, occupying the central field with fine engraved detail depicting his curly hair and period dress. The word 'PRÓBA' (trial/pattern) appears to the right of the bust in the field, along with the engraver's initials 'SW'. The name 'MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK' arcs along the upper periphery in bold lettering. The astronomer's birth and death years '1473 - 1543' are inscribed in the lower field, flanking the base of the portrait. |

Polish trial strikes of this period were produced by Mennica Polska for internal evaluation before the final alloy decision was made — the circulating 100 Złotych Kopernik pieces ultimately went out in copper-nickel, not aluminium. The 1973 date tied the issue to the 500th anniversary of Copernicus's birth, a politically significant occasion the Polish People's Republic exploited aggressively across commemorative programs. Aluminium trials from this series survive in very small numbers, most remaining in mint or institutional holdings rather than reaching collectors through normal channels.
