The denomination ZŁ 100 ZŁ appears in large numerals at the base of the design, flanked by the mint abbreviation marks. The date 19 78 is divided on either side of the eagle's body at mid-field. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA arcs around the upper periphery in Latin characters, denoting the Polish People's Republic. Beschrijving keerzijde A left-facing portrait bust of the celebrated Polish Romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz occupies the center of the field, rendered in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and period costume with a folded collar. The legend ADAM MICKIEWICZ arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin letters. The poet's life dates 1798 - 1855 are inscribed in two groups along the lower arc, separated by a dash. The word PRÓBA (meaning 'trial' or 'pattern' in Polish) appears in small letters to the right of the portrait, confirming the piece's status as a pattern strike. The deeply mirrored proof fields contrast sharply with the frosted relief of the portrait.
